Marathon Runner Claudia Collazo

The Moment Everything Changed
I started my running journey in October 2024. My dear friend Erica encouraged me to run the Long Beach Half Marathon. I’ve always enjoyed working out, but the thought of running 13.1 miles sounded crazy.
During that half marathon, I learned that I was capable of so much more than I could ever imagine. As a result of that experience, in November 2024, I decided to challenge myself and sign up for the LA Marathon. Initially, I doubted myself a lot—because it wasn’t just 13.1 miles; it was 26.2.
When Comfort Ended and Growth Began

The marathon idea also came after partnering with a wellness company called Sparkle Wellness. They gave me the opportunity to really push myself by supporting me with a dietician and a trainer. As amazing as the partnership sounded, and with their support, ultimately I knew that the real work was going to happen when I was alone—on days when I simply “didn’t feel like running.”
I knew I had to prove to myself, when no one was watching, that I was capable of doing this. I am typically an introvert—a homebody—but running pushed me outside my comfort zone. During my training, I started showing up to different running groups without knowing anyone and began talking to people who were on the same journey as me. Along the way, I met so many amazing people who became friends.
The 2025 Los Angeles Marathon- The Day I Proved Myself Right

Running has been the biggest challenge of my life, and during the 2025 Los Angeles Marathon, I knew I would cross that finish line—no matter how long it took me. The moment I crossed the finish line, I cried. If people knew all the mental battles runners fight during a race—and the toughness it takes to push through when giving up is so easy—they would understand how meaningful it is once you get that medal.
That medal is a symbol of how badass I am.
From Inspired to Inspiring Others
Throughout my journey, my friends and family were my biggest cheerleaders. It was so cool to have my family come support me and cheer me on. I am the oldest of four, and I wanted to set an example for my siblings. I’m also happy to share that I inspired my 28-year-old brother to run his first half marathon in late March. I’ve also inspired two friends to run the Nike Half Marathon this coming June.
Being able to inspire and motivate others to run is truly amazing to witness. I can’t wait to be on the other side—cheering my friends on and giving them tips along the way.
Your First Step Starts Today

To anyone who thinks they can’t run because it’s hard: I’m here to tell you that running is tough, but you are tougher—and your body achieves what the mind believes. Anyone can run, no matter your age. Start walking and work your way up. And most importantly, HAVE FUN!
